RIPTIKs and Wave Cards

RIPTA Transportation

Many Met students use RIPTA as part of their daily transportation to school, Learning Through Internship (LTI), college classes, athletics, and other approved school activities. Understanding how to use and care for your RIPTA fare will help ensure you always have reliable transportation.

Wave Cards (Monthly Bus Passes)

Students who live 1.5 miles or more from their school campus are eligible to receive a RIPTA Wave Card.

Eligibility is determined using the straight-line distance ("as the crow flies") between a student's home and school, not by driving distance or GPS directions.

Register Your Wave Card

As soon as you receive your Wave Card, register it immediately by following the instructions included with the card. Registering your card protects your monthly pass if the card is ever lost, damaged, or stolen.

Students can register their card by creating an account through the RIPTA Wave app or on the RIPTA website.

RIPTIK Single-Use Tickets

RIPTIKs are available at each school's front desk for students who need temporary transportation for approved school-related purposes.

RIPTIKs may be issued to:

  • Students waiting for a replacement Wave Card.
  • Students who do not yet have a Wave Card and need transportation to an approved Learning Through Internship (LTI).
  • Students traveling to approved college classes or athletic activities.

Because the number of RIPTIKs is limited, every ticket issued is tracked by the school.

RIPTIKs May Not Be Used For

RIPTIKs are provided only for school-related transportation and may not be used for:

  • Shopping or personal errands.
  • Visiting friends or family.
  • Recreational trips.
  • Any travel unrelated to school activities.

Using RIPTIKs responsibly helps ensure they remain available for students who need transportation to learning opportunities.

Lost, Damaged, or Missing Wave Cards

If your Wave Card is lost, damaged, or stops working, report it as soon as possible by scanning the QR code posted around campus or by submitting a replacement request online.

If your card was registered, you can transfer your monthly pass to a replacement card through the Wave app or the RIPTA website.

If your card was not registered and it is lost after the 15th of the month, you will generally need to wait until the first day of the following month before a replacement pass can be issued.
