We’re excited to welcome Met students and families back for the 2026–27 school year! The first day of school is Wednesday, August 26, and we want to make sure everyone has the information they need for a smooth start.
Below are some of the most important things to know before the first day.
First Day & School Hours
First Day of School: Wednesday, August 26
School Hours: 9:00 AM–3:00 PM
Students should arrive ready to begin the day at 9:00 AM. Because schedules and activities may look a little different during the opening days of school, students should pay close attention to information from their advisor and small school.
Transportation & Bus Information
Students who are registered for Met transportation should review their bus information before the first day of school.
Questions about a student's transportation arrangements should be directed to the Met Transportation Office.
Riding RIPTA
Eligible students may receive a RIPTA Wave Card for transportation to and from school. Students should make sure they have their Wave Card with them each day and keep it in a safe place.
Information about eligibility, lost or damaged cards, and using RIPTA for school-related travel is available on our transportation page.
PLEASE NOTE: WAVE cards will not be refilled until September 1, and new students will not receive their WAVE cards until September 1. RIPTA will allow students to travel for free for the first days of school. Please report any issues to the Met Transportation office. Please do not purchase a monthly pass without consulting with our office.
Chromebooks, Devices & Cell Phones
Returning students should bring their charged Met-issued Chromebook to school each day, along with the charger when needed. New students will be issued their Chromebooks within the first few days of school.
Technology is an important part of learning at the Met, but students are expected to use personal devices, including cell phones, appropriately and follow the expectations of their advisor, classroom teacher, internship site, and small school. Personal devices should not interfere with learning or the school community.
Attendance & Reporting an Absence
Regular attendance is an important part of being successful at the Met.
If your student will be absent or late, please contact the student's advisor or school office as soon as possible.
Students leaving school before 3:00 PM should be dismissed through their school office.
Remember that internship days are also school days. If a student will be absent from an internship, the appropriate school and internship contacts should be notified.
What Should Students Bring?
Students do not need to arrive with a long list of school supplies. For the first day, we recommend bringing:

A notebook and something to write with

A reusable water bottle

Any information or materials requested by your advisor or small school

Your RIPTA Wave Card, if applicable

Most importantly, come ready to reconnect, meet new people, and start planning for the year ahead!
Advisors will let students know if additional materials are needed.

Stay Up to Date
The Met's online calendar includes school closings, professional development days, exhibitions, vacations, events, and other important dates throughout the year.
