Alexus Collazo recently began an internship in the kitchen at Rue Bis in Providence.

Estebe-Ana Phin started her internship with designer Kent Stetson yesterday. She will be working directly with production, sales, and design. Check out some of Kent Stetson's amazing designs and products here: http://www.kentstetson.com/

I am excited to see what these students will learn and do at their new internship sites!

Madison Aubin became the first student to begin her project. She is designing and making her own dress with the help of her mentor, Tony.

12/8 Great student progress

Gustavo Rocha will create a presentation where he will come up with the design specs on a job bid for his internship at Federal Security Technologies. He will have to include product and hardware lists, pricing, power consumption estimates, and bandwidth calculations. He will also research the evolution of cyber security. I learned so much in our project meeting and look forward to seeing the results!

Jordy Martinez, Alesia Mendez, Alia Castillo, Robert Madave, Anthony Rodriguez, Libasse Gadiaga and Gabriela Velez secured informational interviews this week.

Tonya Ketchel and Alia Castillo also secured shadow days at possible internship sites.

I know all my students will do a great job! Keep your fingers crossed that they land some more internship opportunities.

11/2 - Exhibitions

Exhibitions are coming quickly! Please encourage your child to practice and prepare at home over the next week and a half. This can be a time filled with a lot of nerves and last minute work. All assignments are due this Friday, November 4, in order to be presented at a student's exhibition. Check your student's work tracker on the right to see if they have completed all required work.

11/1 - Our third internship

Today, Madison Aubin had a shadow day with Conte's Custom Tailoring in downtown Providence. At the end of the day, he asked her to come back! I am so excited she got this opportunity. Madison is interested in fashion design, and Tony already gave her some tips and had her practicing stitches on her first day.

10/18 - A visit to the Providence Municipal Court

Today, students were able to observe and participate in a court session at the Providence Municipal Court. Tonya was even chosen to help judge! They also had an opportunity to ask questions and take pictures with Judge Caprio following our visit. Stay tuned for an update about when the episode of "Caught in Providence" that the students participated in will air.

10/13 - Autumn experiences at Dame Farm

Today, we traveled to Dame Farm in Johnston, RI. The day started off with some apple cider that is made at the farm. That was followed by a hayride around the farm. It was pulled by a tractor and narrated by the farm's owner. Students were able to make their way through the corn maze. Our day finished with some sugar pumpkin picking before we returned to school.

Today, we were able to take a tour of Trinity Repertory Company. Students were able to see the prop shop, sets being built, dressing rooms and stages. They also learned a little about current shows.

10/11 - First internship!

Today, Jehudi Cruz began his internship at DownCity Design. It's an architectural design program that builds necessary structures in the community. Students are responsible for the entire process. Jehudi was the only student from our advisory to apply for this opportunity, and he is going to learn a lot. I can't wait to see what he will build!

Today, we visited Trattoria Zooma on Federal Hill in Providence. Students watched a pizza demonstration and were able to learn more about careers in the restaurant industry. Then, they got to eat some pizza!
