  • 1:30:18 Town Torn Apart

Having previously been an innovative educator in New York, Dennis Littky had decided to change his lifestyle by moving to Winchester, New Hampshire for a period of quiet reflection and personal growth. However, Dennis, a compassionate man, cannot ignore the desperate plight of Winchester’s Thayer High School when his is confronted by the facts. The school has a dropout rate of thirty percent; only twenty percent of the students go on to college and the police are in constant attendance to help solve the innumerable hard-core discipline problems. Worst of all is the attitude of the students and their parents - few seem to care and none seem to be able to do anything to improve the situation. With the help of some of the more dedicated teachers such as Ellen Krieger, “Doc” Littky sets to work involving students and townspeople in his efforts to rally support for the school and the initiate creative and dynamic new teaching methods.
