Attendance and Absences
Every Day Matters
At the Met, learning happens through projects, advisory, internships, exhibitions, and collaboration. Being present each day helps students build strong relationships, stay engaged in their learning, and make the most of every opportunity.
If your student will be absent, late, or needs to leave school early, please let us know as soon as possible.
Reporting an Absence
If your student will be absent, please notify their advisor or school coordinator (you can find the phone number in the school directory) before the start of the school day whenever possible.
Providing timely notice helps us ensure students are safe and allows advisors to support students in staying on track with their learning.
School Hours
School Day: 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Students are expected to arrive on time and remain at school for the full day unless approved for an early dismissal.
Arriving Late
If a student arrives after the start of the school day, they should check in with the school coordinator before joining their advisory or learning activities.
If possible, families should notify the advisor or school coordinator in advance when a student will be arriving late.
Early Dismissal
If your student needs to leave before the end of the school day, please contact the school coordinator as early as possible.
Early dismissal requests should be made in advance whenever possible to minimize disruption to learning.
Medical Appointments
Whenever possible, we encourage families to schedule medical, dental, and other appointments outside of school hours.
If an appointment must take place during the school day, please notify the school coordinator in advance so arrangements can be made for your student's arrival, departure, or return to school.
Vacations During the School Year
School breaks and vacations are built into the academic calendar, and we encourage families to schedule travel during these times whenever possible.
If travel during the school year is unavoidable, please notify your student's advisor and school coordinator as far in advance as possible so they can help your student prepare for missed learning opportunities.
Learning Through Internship (LTI) Attendance
Attendance expectations apply on both school days and Learning Through Internship (LTI) days.
If your student will be absent on an LTI day, please notify:
- Your student's advisor
- Your student's mentor
- The Transportation Office if your student is scheduled to ride a Met bus to their internship
Prompt communication helps ensure everyone involved in your student's learning is informed and allows transportation schedules to be adjusted when necessary.
Staying Connected
If your student will be absent for multiple days due to illness or another extended circumstance, please stay in communication with your student's advisor.
Your advisor will work with your student to help them reconnect with their learning and make a plan for completing important work.

School coordinators are also available to assist with attendance procedures, late arrivals, early dismissals, and extended absences.
